But how can it be so fast without EcoBoost?

becuase it's not concerned with ECO.

Because of restrictions in the 1947 Japanese constitution

That was actually a damn good answer.
I'm just sick of the joking about ecoboost, it's not going anywhere, just move on with life.

I can't wait to see what the next-gen Camaro is capable of. That Alpha platform is supposed to bring some pretty significant weight loss.
What a time to be alive when you have two cars that are ostensibly supposed to be muscle cars (I don't care if you call them pony cars, I'll let you know right now) that can lap the 'Ring in under 8 minutes.

Wonder if it the weight loss will be real or if it is just vaporware like the Mustang's diet.
And in a time when a pony car is as fast as what is coming out of Maranello.

The weight loss for the Mustang was offset by the addition of the IRS. The Camaro already has that, and the Alpha platform has proven the be one of the lightest platforms in its class. The ATS and CTS are comparative featherweights thanks to it.
I should hope it would reduce the weight in the next-gen Camaro, though by how much I have no idea.
Now all we need is the Challenger to go on a diet. 4,400lbs and change is absolutely fucking ridiculous. If the next Challenger isn't at least 500lbs lighter, the engineers at Dodge should all be fired.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet is hard at work redesigning the Camaro from the ground up.

Well the Ford Accordstang GT350 Type-R has VTEC which inexplicably decided to kick in for once as well as EcoBoost without the Eco and the Boost.

Z/28 did it in the rain.

The Challenger isn't getting involved in the lap time pissing match.
The Challenger is about power and comfort. It's a GT. I don't think Dodge should try to compete with the Mustang and Camaro on track times, it'll just lose.

Yes sir. 2.0T manual ATS weighs 34XX.
I expect an SS Camaro to come in around 36XX with an LT1 and 7 speed manual.
Even less if they make a light weight track car like the Z28.

IRS and loads of safety equipment.
The Challenger is a completely different car than the Stang or the Camaro, its not even in the same league, Hellcat aside. Heck the thing looks like a CUV parked to either one of the others. Dodge has a long way to go before they are competing head to head at the track (road course) with Ford or Chevy.

Dodge absolutely should. In fact, according to Marchionne's plan to make Dodge into a performance focused brand, they kind of have to. You absolutely can't do it on the Challenger's current platform. That's why I said it needs to go on a massive fucking diet for the next-gen.

Supposedly so did the GT350R. I just hope they let Stielow do his thing with the 6th gen as soon as possible.

Z/28 did maybe the last tenth in the rain. But supposedly the GT350R did it in the rain. But if it was in the dry, that puts the time nearly identical to what GM said the Z/28 would do if it didn't rain.

Sounds like a drivers race. I hope they both make it to the next Lightning Lap. Well see. Seeing how the Z/28 will be out of production by then. GM may surprise us with something new by then.
